Yalikavak
is 19 km from Bodrum and lies at the northwest corner of the Bodrum
Peninsula. This lovely area offers a variety of water sports and
Yalikavak’s new Marina attracts many foreign boats to its elegant
harbour.
Yalikavak is remowned for its superb sunsets and the sparkling clean
sea is the home of the endangered Monachus Monarchus Mediterranean
seal which is protected by the State.
The town offers its visitors many delights such as the fresh fish
caught
in the local waters - gilt head bream and red mullet are served in
the local restaurants. Historic sights such as Sandima, Pasanda and
Dirmil are famous and a walk around the nearby headlands reveal
ancient tombs carved into rocks. Archaeolgical excavations have
established that human habitation in the region began in the second
millenium B.C. and artifacts show that the area was inhabited by
Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine,…
Windmills can be found dotted around the area and domed water
cisterns, which in the past were used in times of drought, have now
been adapted for artistic and cultural uses. |
